This 10 night holiday is a seamless blend of classic Kenya, old-world safari glamour and barefoot Indian Ocean luxury, travelling by light aircraft with Governors Aviation to keep transitions effortless and scenic.
Governors’ is one of Africa’s most respected safari names, renowned for its deep roots in Kenya, exceptional guiding and an unwavering commitment to classic, low-impact safari experiences. Operating some of the most coveted private airstrips and riverfront locations in the Masai Mara, Governors has built its reputation on access, authenticity and quietly impeccable service. Travelling with Governors means seamless light-aircraft transfers, outstanding wildlife knowledge and a safari rhythm shaped entirely around the natural world.
The journey opens in the Great Rift Valley at Loldia House, a historic family-owned home on the shores of Lake Naivasha. Days are gently paced: lunches on the lawn with views of Mount Longonot, watching birdlife gather along the lake edge. The atmosphere is rooted in Kenya’s settler history.
A privately guided game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park showcases one of Kenya’s most rewarding wildlife areas. The park is a recognised rhino sanctuary, offering excellent opportunities to see white rhino alongside buffalo, and frequent leopard sightings, all set against the backdrop of flamingo-lined shores and acacia woodland. A relaxed picnic lunch overlooking the lake completes the experience.
From the Rift Valley, a scenic flight carries you directly into the Masai Mara, landing deep inside the reserve and straight into game-rich territory. Governors’ Camp, set along the Mara River, occupies a site once reserved for colonial governors and visiting royalty. Today it remains an icon of tented safari living, combining spacious canvas tents, uninterrupted views and refined service with a timeless, understated elegance.
Game viewing in the Mara is flexible and immersive, daily drives timed for optimal light and wildlife activity. Predators, elephants and large herds of game are regularly encountered, often close to camp. Evenings unfold with fireside drinks and candlelit dinners, reinforcing the sense of classic safari romance that defines the Governors experience.
From the Mara, the journey transitions to the spice-scented shores of Zanzibar. On the island’s quieter northeast coast, Matemwe Attitude offers a complete change of pace. A private beach villa provides space, privacy and uninterrupted views of the turquoise Indian Ocean, with powder-white sand and a thriving coral reef just offshore.
Life here is intentionally unhurried: mornings with ocean views and gentle tides, days drifting between beach, pool and snorkelling excursions, and evenings shaped by fresh seafood, Swahili flavours and warm island breezes. It is a peaceful, restorative finale that perfectly balances the intensity of safari with barefoot luxury.
