This 13-night, expertly guided journey offers an in-depth exploration of South Africa, travelling in a small group of no more than 10 for a more personal, immersive experience.
The adventure begins in Johannesburg, South Africa’s vibrant economic hub, where modern city life is shaped by a powerful history of gold, diamonds, and the struggle for freedom.
Travelling east into Mpumalanga, known as “Paradise Country,” the journey unfolds through mountain towns and historic settlements, with natural highlights such as the dramatic Mac-Mac Falls leading toward the gateway of Kruger National Park. Along the iconic Panorama Route, sweeping viewpoints reveal the vast Blyde River Canyon, the Three Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and the escarpment views from God’s Window.
A standout experience is an open-vehicle safari in Kruger National Park, where expert rangers guide you through one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves in search of the Big Five and a wealth of other species.
Crossing into the Kingdom of eSwatini, rolling hills and fertile valleys set the scene for an immersive cultural experience. Visits to the Ngwenya Glass Factory and Swazi Candle Factory highlight the country’s rich artistic traditions and sustainable craftsmanship.
Back in South Africa, the route continues through Zululand and the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi region, renowned for its rhino conservation and exceptional biodiversity.
From the east coast, a short flight from Durban to Port Elizabeth leads into the breathtaking Garden Route, where dramatic coastlines, indigenous forests, and mountain backdrops define the journey through Tsitsikamma. Passing Plettenberg Bay, you arrive in Knysna, set beside a tranquil lagoon and best enjoyed on a scenic sunset cruise through the famous Knysna Heads.
Crossing the Outeniqua Pass into the Little Karoo, the journey reaches Oudtshoorn, the world’s ostrich capital, with time to explore the spectacular Cango Caves, sculpted over millions of years.
Winding through mountain passes and rural communities, the route continues to Hermanus, one of the world’s finest destinations for land-based whale watching during migration season, including a meaningful visit to a Barrydale farm school supporting local education.
The journey follows the coastline into the Cape Winelands, with time to explore Stellenbosch, before concluding in Cape Town, framed by Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. Highlights include a full-day Cape Peninsula tour, taking in Cape Point, Hout Bay, and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach, before time at leisure to relax, explore, and reflect on an unforgettable journey.
